I hate to say it but we won't release a production version of AtGuard. There were too many issues with the beta release on XP. On top of that, Vista requires pretty much a full re-write. We don't have the resources to get it done right. So, unfortunately, we are folding up the tent.
I can't thank you enough for the words of encouragement and the feedback during the beta period.
Please drop an email to info@atguard.net if you think it would be helpful to keep this forum up. Otherwise, we will shut it down at the end of the month.
Thanks again. |

I wouldn't worry about Vista because there maybe only 1 or 2 firewall out there that are ready for Vista. From what I've hear on many forum alot of people are planning to stay with XP since Vista will be introducing DRM all over the OS. I know alot of people that would switch to AtGuard if it comes out of beta.
I hope you guys change your mind and keep going with AtGuard, there is good potential with this firewall.
Maybe my new post may change your minds:

| Before you guys shut down the forum, could you possibly tell us how to get around the "90-Day" problem. |

That is too bad, but after using the Vista firewall I can understand the decision.
I second what Fred is asking for all the XP users that will not move to Vista. Like me and punny laptop. _________________ YMMV |

Talk about ruining a guy's day
I'm real sorry to read the above -- I like others would be willing to purchase @Guard beta version ...
And forget about Vista -- shoot, I just got into the 21st century by upgrading to XP ...

And here I had figured out one problem that seemed to be a major issue with AG (the HTTP problem)
If AG will not go into production though, will you at least release it to the public like I requested when I just contacted you initially? That way the people that like to live without Vista (me being one of them, for starters) can use this packet filter as long as they like.
If it's going to be abandoned, I'd prefer to at least give people the choice to use it even if not supported?

Well heck.... I guess it's time for me to stop holding my breath in the hopes that AtGuard will be officially fixed.
I like many others, refuse to advance onwards to Vista, primarily because of the new practice of an Operating System turning decent old monitors into "Legacy Monitors" by the introduction of DRM junk into consumer monitors. Add on top of that all the DRM junk in the OS, and I'm afraid MacroSloth has just screwed the pooch and themselves.
I hear that supposedly a lot of people say "wow" upon seeing the Vista for the first time. When I saw it for the first time, I can honestly say that my first words weren't anything close to "wow." It was more like "wtf is with all this damn fluff?" If I wanted a rolodex, I would buy a real rolodex to flip through manually... At least a real rolodex won't crash, cause my monitor to become a legacy device, or cause me to not be able to view my HD DVD movies in the clarity they were intended to shown!
It's a shame to hear that AtGuard is being ditched due to complications.. Is a re-write really that hard, or are you guys really just that busy with other things?
Either way, thanks for the product which I've relied upon for years... It's been a great firewall. |
